I have to admit, I’ve never given much thought as to how long hair extensions have been around for. From my experience, they didn’t really gain mass appeal until the 2000’s, before then extensions seemed to be reserved for the uber rich. The main reason they have become available to the mainstream public is that the newer methods are so much easier to apply. This has resulted in many more salons offering an extension service, and also many online sellers offering do-it-yourself type products like clip on extensions. Also, newer methods of application are now much safer and so women aren’t as afraid to add extensions.

What Hair Extension Weight Is Best For You?

“My hairdresser told me to find an extension supplier and buy 200 extensions”. I hear this quite often but it is a bit puzzling. How can a hairdresser know how many extensions someone needs without knowing who the hair extension supplier is and more importantly, what weight extensions they supply. Hair extensions come in a whole range of weights, the more common weights being 0.5g, 0.8g and 1g per extension. So if you’re buying 1g extensions, you wouldn’t need as many extensions as if the hair was 0.5g. Keep that in mind.
