Micro Ring Hair Extension Pliers

This is a quick post about hair extension pliers. If you want an in depth guide to micro ring extensions, check out this previous post on micro ring hair extensions. I am noticing a lot of hair extension suppliers offering extension pliers for sale which aren’t actually designed for extensions. They are just pliers used traditionally by fisherman or electricians. The way you can tell if they are this type is if they have a cutting section as part of the pliers. See an example by clicking here.

The cutting area is usually used to cut wire but if you’re not careful, you’ll end up cutting your natural hair. After adding 200 extensions, it’s easy to get a bit complacent and that’s when you can easily chop into your hair.

More About Hair Extension Pliers:

The other feature of genuine micro ring pliers is that they have semi-circle grooves towards the end of the pliers. These grooves allow you to reopen the micro rings when you are adjusting or removing them. They open the rings into a perfect circle.

If your pliers don’t have these groves then ask your supplier why not.

Specialty extension pliers can cost a fair bit more than those fisherman pliers which can be picked up from any discount store for $1.

Check out the following page to see a picture of an appropriate set of pliers for adding extensions. It’s a bit hard to see but they don’t have a cutting blade and you can see the semi-circle holes for reopening the rings. Click on this micro ring extension guide.

Micro ring extensions, in my experience, are a safe method as they don’t involve heat or glue which can damage the hair. However, with the wrong tools you could end up with hair damage or extensions which don’t last as long as they should.
